Wanderlure ("the App", Korean name 홀린듯) uses your location to generate a random destination near you and to show the remaining distance and bearing to it in real time. The App only asks for "While Using the App" permission. After you start a walk and until you arrive or end it, location keeps being used even with the screen off (phone in your pocket) so checkpoint guidance can continue; iOS shows a location indicator while this happens. Location is not used when you are not on a walk.
Guidance such as reaching a checkpoint is delivered through local notifications generated on your device and a lock-screen Live Activity; no server is involved.
When you save a place you found, the coordinates of that spot are stored alongside it, but only on your device. They are never uploaded to any server and are deleted when you delete the app.
You can revoke the location permission at any time in your device settings. Without it, the core features — destination generation and distance guidance — cannot work.
You may take or choose a photo when recording a place you found. That photo is stored only on your device and is never transmitted to the developer or to any third party. Adding a photo is optional.
The App downloads map tiles from OpenStreetMap's tile servers to draw the map. In doing so, the coordinates of the map area you are viewing and your IP address are sent to those servers. This is technical communication required to display a map; the developer does not collect or store this information. See the OpenStreetMap Foundation Privacy Policy for details.
To determine the real walking distance and checkpoints, the start and destination coordinates (rounded to 5 decimals) are sent to openrouteservice (operated by HeiGIT gGmbH, Germany) on the walk introduction screen. They are used only to compute the route; the developer does not receive or store them, and no name or device identifier is sent. See the HeiGIT Privacy Policy.
After a walk you may create a "walk card" image and send it through the iOS share sheet. The card is drawn on your device and contains no photo location metadata (EXIF), no map, coordinates or starting point. Only if you turn on "Show area" is a city/district name shown (looked up with Apple's geocoding). You alone choose where to share it; the developer does not receive it.
The App is free. Ads appear in only two places: (1) a short rewarded ad when you choose to add more than one photo to a record, and (2) on random-destination walks of 45 minutes or more, one full-screen ad after you arrive, when you tap “Save a place you found” or “Finish” (you are told before you set off). No ad ever plays on its own while you are being guided, and directions back to your start never show an ad.
Google AdMob is used to serve these ads and may process the following in order to deliver and measure them:
| Data | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Device identifiers | Ad frequency capping and measurement |
| Coarse location (IP-based) | Serving region-appropriate ads |
| Ad interaction data | Confirming ad completion |
| Diagnostics | Error and performance measurement |
The App does not request App Tracking Transparency (ATT) permission and therefore does not access the iOS advertising identifier (IDFA). Google decides which ads are shown. See Google's Ads Policy for details.
The App collects no personally identifiable information whatsoever — no name, email, phone number or date of birth. There is no account system and no developer-operated server. The place names and notes you write stay on your device.
The App is not directed to children under 14 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Because destinations are generated from random coordinates, a suggested destination may be hard to reach or unsafe. Please stay aware of traffic and your surroundings while walking, and do not enter restricted areas. The developer is not responsible for outcomes arising from your own judgment and actions.
